Best Butter Chicken Curry

Butter Chicken Curry Recipe

Ingredients

  • skinless chicken breasts 500g, cut into chunks
  • ground turmeric 1 tsp
  • ginger a thumb-sized piece, peeled and grated
  • garlic 2 cloves, crushed
  • lemon 1/2, juiced
  • butter 35g
  • onion 1 large, thinly sliced
  • makhani or other curry paste 3 tbsp
  • tomato puree 1 tbsp
  • ground almonds 2 tbsp
  • full-fat natural yogurt 175ml
  • chicken stock 150ml
  • coriander a handful of leaves
  • basmati rice to serve

Method

  • STEP 1

    Toss the chicken with the turmeric, ginger, garlic, lemon juice and ½ tsp salt. Heat the butter in a large wide pan then cook the onion for 10 minutes until softened and starting to turn golden. Add the curry paste and tomato purée and cook for 3 minutes. Add the chicken and cook until opaque.

  • STEP 2

    Mix the almonds and yogurt in a bowl then stir into the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the stock and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Scatter over the coriander and serve with basmati rice.

Welcome back to Malickland, the perma-twilight world where Hollywood’s most beautiful wander around fields/beaches/city underpasses while their disconnected musings whisper on the soundtrack. Terrence Malick’s eighth drama doesn’t deviate a lot from his normal MO.

Thematically, it is perhaps closest to the portrayal of jealousy and betrayal in 2012’s To The Wonder, but Malick finds a more engaging iteration of these emotions, still shot through with formally exquisite filmmaking but buoyed by the movie-star charisma of Michael Fassbender, Rooney Mara and particularly Ryan Gosling.

In outline, Song To Song is a simple relationship drama about an aspiring musician, Faye (Mara), who flits between likeable songwriter BV (Gosling), and predatory music producer Cook (Fassbender, doing his pervy scoundrel thing) In Malick’s hands, this wisp of a plot becomes a framework to hang a series of fragments illustrating the film’s central idea — the search for living an authentic life, be it through romantic love, parental connections, sex or music. Malick certainly doesn’t shy away from Big Themes: nature versus grace, the difficulty of monogamy and the difference between our public and private lives all come under the microscope.

What is a Souk and Where Did it Originate?

A souq was originally an open-air marketplace. Historically, souqs were held outside cities at locations where incoming caravans stopped and merchants displayed their goods for sale. Souqs were formed whenever a caravan or caravans arrived. Since this might be infrequent, souqs often extended beyond buying and selling goods to include major festivals involving various cultural and social activities. Any Arab Souq may serve a social function as being a place for people to meet in, in addition to its commercial function.

Later, due to the importance of marketplaces and the growth of cities, the major locations of souqs shifted to urban centers.

In tribal areas, neutrality from tribal conflicts was usually declared for the period of operation of a souk to permit the unhampered exchange of surplus goods.

The spelling souk entered European languages probably through French during the French occupation of the Arab countries Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia in the 19th and 20th centuries. Thus, the word “souk” most likely refers to Arabic/North African traditional markets. Other spellings of this word involving the letter “Q” (sooq, souq…) were likely developed using English and thus refer to Western Asian/Arab traditional markets, as British colonialism was present there during the 19th and 20th centuries. In Modern Standard Arabic the term al-sooq refers to markets in both the physical sense and the abstract economic sense (e.g., an Arabic-speaker would speak of the sooq in the old city as well as the sooq for oil, and would call the concept of the free market السوق الحرّ as-sūq al-ḥurr).

As in markets generally, prices are commonly set by bargaining between buyers and sellers.

The term is often used to designate the market in any Western Asian city, but may also be used in Western cities, particularly those with a Muslim community.

We’ve had some great news at Trafalgar and JF Marquees in the last few weeks.  Our Managing Director, James Morris, has been nominated as Young Director of the Year at the IoD (Institute of Directors) awards. Firstly, this means we get to attend a glitzy awards ceremony (well we’ve got to get our priorities straight!), but becoming a finalist in such prestigious awards means a whole heap of other positive things for our business too.

Recognition

With the IoD awards there was a stringent application process which included a written entry and an interview.  To become a finalist is great recognition for a job well done by our Managing Director, James and shows that the company is on the right track.

Publicity

Well you are reading this blog, aren’t you? ;-) Becoming an awards finalist is a great good news story for us to share among our clients, suppliers and associates, and we’ve already had some lovely messages of congratulations.  We think it also increases our client’s confidence that they have made a great choice in choosing us for their marquee requirements.
